Aligning the long bar and the pipe

The long bar has been inserted into the slot in the pipe. I have chucked up the pipe in the lathe, and am turning the lathe by hand to ensure the alignment of the bar and the pipe (using the cutting tool as a reference point). The Pipe needs to be exactly in the center of the bar, and the two pieces need to be exactly perpendicular. If either of these is out of alignment, then the nut, which will be welded to the other end of the pipe, will not be centered in the battery pod.
